It was Renz Descartes who first had the idea of how to relate algebra to geometry and who invented the concept of ordered pairs and coordinates. This poster illustrates a variety of ways in which different kinds of coordinates can be used and how they are related to each other. Whether they be in two, three, four or more dimensions, be imaginary or real or serve as grid references to locations on land or in the sky, the power of coordinates to help mathematical thinking while teaching coordinates is clearly evident.
